oh what a day...

Not much happening today. I am planning on going to the dragstrip tonight to eat some greasy food and drink some cheap beer. Thursday nights are usually the best nights to go because there is an abundance of sub-9-second cars and money floating around. It usually makes for a good show. Hopefully, Ill get a new laptop soon so I can post more.

oh noes!

My laptop died the other day (06/08/06 R.I.P), and no amount of tender, lovin' care would bring it back to life. It was an old DELL hand-me-down that my mother passed on to me when she got a new mac-daddy dell laptop. I dont know what to do with myself now. It was really my fault... I think I cracked something in the mainboard by putting too much pressure on the keyboard. Sometimes, some of the keys didnt like to work so you would have to give the keyboard a good amount of pressure to get the connector seated right. I had taken it apart a few times to fix this but it would always work itself loose somehow. Well, I guess I pressed to hard... cause I heard a nice loud crack... and then I heard the hard drive spin down. Then linux got really sluggish and crashed. Deep down I knew something was srsly wrong. Checking the BIOS, I found that it wasn't seeing the hard drive at all. Everything seemed o.k. on the inside. So I make sure all the connections were tight and put it back together. Same deal. Soon I got frustrated and took it apart again. It was then I decided that I am not going to put it back together and that I should canibalize the working parts for some of the upcoming projects I have planned. It was either that... or take a hammer to it. It was such a good little computer... it gave me hell most the time but I still loved it. It will be missed.

My brother was gone the whole weekend. I was without gas (and cash) most of the weekend and spent my time laying on the couch, watching garden state (four times), and drinking beer from 24oz. cans. I cooked a mean dinner Saturday night and ate more than I should have. Sunday, I woke up surprisingly early so I went out onto the front porch and cracked a beer to start the day. It was too hot to do much of anything so I spent a good amount of time inside, sprawled out on the couch, watching motorcycle races. Damn, I can be lazy when I want to be.

oh and by the way...

Listening to: Reggie and the Full Effect - Get well soon

Ok... so today wasn't as boring. I still woke up later than I should have. Had to return a car today because they “gave me the wrong car” the day before. Of course, I got blamed for it. All I was told to do was pick up the damn car. They showed me which car it was, and I went on about my business. I found out late last night that unfortunately... it was the wrong vehicle. Everyone thought it was hilarious except for the woman who “almost lost her job” over it. So of course, she pointed her finger at me. No one really seemed to care that much except for her. So after correctly identifying the car I was supposed to get... I proceeded to go on about my business. Oh wait... whats this? There are three wrecked cars in front of the car i'm supposed to snatch. We couldn't have it any other way now could we? Thirty minutes, and two close calls later and I am finally pulling out of the yard. Thank the lord! At least I had some good tunes with me today. Ever since we moved the power inverter from the engine compartment to inside the cab of the truck, it has not overheated one time. 800 watts of pure, continuous power at my disposal. Nice. My laptop however, nearly fried itself today in the ninety degree heat. I had to direct cold air on it most of the day to keep it from shutting down. I got home sometime before the sun went down and ordered a pizza. Ham, cheese, pineapple, mushroom, and onions... it's the only way to go. Three quarters of a large Papa John's pizza later had me begging for mercy and wishing I hadn't ate so much. I then proceed to wash down the rest of the bread sticks with the beer left over from last weekend's trip to the drag-strip. I don't know why I do this to myself...

Speaking of the drag-strip. I had the chance last weekend to go to Braggin' Rights '06. We went out there after the heat of the day had faded. I really went with the intention of selling two cars. I had heard there would be a lot of cars (and people) out there... but I had no idea that most of them would be imports. My weekend was a huge disappointment of bad driving, annoying mufflers, and passes in excess of 14 and 15 seconds. There were a few cars that ran OK. But for the time and money they spent to make those cars run only in the high 10 second range... it was still a disappointment. There was a time when I loved Honda engines. I guess I still do... they are awesome machines. For their size... they put out more power-per-liter (at least the double overhead-cam engines) than almost any other production engine. That being said... they are still slow-ass cars. And if you want to make one fast... you had better be rich as hell... or your parents had better be rich as hell. I'm going to apologize to any pro-Honda 'kids' that may read this (hell... no one reads this anyway)... but 15 seconds in the quarter mile is not fast. Yes... it may be somewhat impressive for a four-cylinder engine. That being said... I think my loyalty still lies with small-block, Chevrolet engines. Yea yea... you do hear of some fast import cars. 10 seconds, 9 seconds... it does happen... and with the $60,000 it takes to make it go that fast (and look totally silly), the damn thing better sprout wings, fly down the race track (and back), flip you the finger, all while making me dinner and going out for another beer run. Half that money you spent in your car could build a nice looking, small-block car that would whip your import's ass and steal your girlfriend quicker than you'd probably know what to do about it. And on that note... I'm going to the store to buy more beer.

Some of the finer things in life...

boring day...

Listening to: Miles Davis - Pharaoh's Dance

Had a pretty boring day. I got to work later that I should have. Spent some time at the office ripping some of my music collection to mp3 while eating a chicken salad sammich. Drank beer. I think I may have picked up a client today for some consulting/design work. It's not really what I do anymore but I'm willing to do anything these days to pick up a little cash on the side. Since I got my office setup I feel like I can handle more now. Had some depressing dreams last night. Possibly contributed to me laying on the couch longer than I should have. Could be one of the reasons I don't like going to sleep... I am afraid of what I will dream about. I miss my little boy. Miss the way he smells... the sound of his bark... they way he whines. I miss grilling steaks and splitting one with him. I dream about him way to much... and spend too much time wondering what I could have done different so that he still could be around. I work a lot just to keep from thinking about him. Thats about all I have to say about that.
